NOISE Report - February 24

Morning Star Baptist Church opened their doors to feed the people as a part of their city-wide food pantry.

Vickie Young, congregant and organizer, explained:

“We had a pantry in January, we served over 94 families. This month I think we served over 100 families, no IDS required.” “We had Rotella’s bread, we were blessed with ground beef, we were blessed with eggs, apples, oranges. You know, some of the supplements you need to make a nice wholesome meal.”

Despite frigid temperatures and a forecasted blizzard, many still showed up for the free food that was available. Kenneth Mitchell, a volunteer, rejoiced:

“You know it opens at 10 o’clock even with the weather the way they said it was going to be. They still came. So that goes to show you the need of people. You and so when God blesses us to be able to serve the people, you’re supposed to take up the banner.

Destiny, a student, who volunteered with her family to distribute and load food, shared why the pantry was important to her:

“It inspired me to help back because I have everything I need and I grew up with my mom and she buys everything so it inspired me to help back - it is always good to help people in need.”

The City-Wide Pantry is held from 10am to 1pm every fourth Saturday at Morning Star Baptist Church on 20th & Grace Streets. The next pantry is March 23rd.
