Our colleague and collaborator Emily Chen-Newton at KIOS-FM produces Made in the Middle, a podcast exploring science and culture through the history of the American Heartland. The most recent episode discusses the creation and opening of the first American shopping mall in the 1950s, the socio-political climate of the time, and the state of malls today.

Noisemaker, Ashley Salem, joins Emily on this episode sharing her experience growing up with shopping malls and concepts of upward fiscal mobility as suburbs, cities, and commerce expanded.
